Team rankings don't mean much. Rival's 2008 rankings (this past season's 
seniors and fourth-year juniors) had Alabama number 1 (they did okay in 
2011), followed by Notre Dame, Florida, Ohio State and Miami (not so 
much). LSU came in at 11; Colorado was 15th (!) and Minnesota was 
17th(!!), ahead of Oregon (19), Okie State (26), KState (27), Arkansas 
(36), Wisconsin (41) and Stanford (50). I know, it's only one year's 
data, but these are the guys who should have been leading their teams 
this year.
