Subject: [Husker] Sports talk shows and podcasts
I would like to know if anyone has any opinions or recommendations of
sports talk shows and/or podcasts that they like. I generally listen off
my ipod, so I am looking for shows that are downloadable that way. Most of
the podcasts I listen to are not really podcasts, just rebroadcasts of
radio or tv shows downloaded to my ipod. Most of the true
podcasts...people talking and discussing a subject....are generally
terrible and painfully boring. I guess I need some production or something
to keep my interest because I listen for both content and entertainment and
genuine podcasts like that are hard to find.
Here is what I usually listen to or have listened to in the past. Most are
ESPN stuff just because they are the most well known to me. (Everything
below is all just my own opinion of course)
Pardon the Interruption - love it. I enjoy both Michael Wilbon and Tony
Kornheiser and they keep me entertained even when their topic is not of
particular interest to me. They mostly concentrate on professional sports
which I am not interested in but I enjoy their show anyway. Their
interplay is fun and even when they start yelling at each other, which I
normally cannot stand in a show, makes me laugh. Kornheiser also has his
own show which I like as well.
The (Thundering) Herd with Colin Cowherd - awful. I find his voice
inherently annoying and much of his content is simply spewage (I just made
that up) just to get a reaction.
The Jim Rome Show - stopped listening to it after enjoying it for a long
time. I think JR is very good when he is actually talking about sports or
interviewing a sports figure. I also like the vibe of the show and I also
enjoyed some of his rants and his interplay with his callers and emailers.
But I stopped listening because the ratio of good sports and entertainment
vs. absolute crap escalated off the scale. Example...his seemingly endless
banter with his engineering crew, the "how many days in a row I can
interview someone named xxxxx" blather, playing the same sound bite
endlessly until he has run it into the ground like that one where people
shout "yeah" over and over. Funny maybe the first thousand times he played
it...now just beat to death. Too bad because this is a show I liked and
now won't go near.
ESPN Radio Daily - it's up and down
Scott Van Pelt - if I have to.
ESPNU College Football - this is more of a true podcast in that it is Ivan
Maisel and Beano Cook just talking about the sport. Not a radio show.
Terrible.
I can't think of any others but would love to hear anyone else's picks
and/or pans for things to listen to via ipod while on the move. If anyone
is interested that is.
Dave
