Next up is Creighton in Lincoln on Friday.
Massey has Creighton favored by 6.5, 71-64. He ranks Creighton #17
(down 5) and Nebraska #92 (up a whopping 58). He figures the odds
of Nebraska winning is 27%.
Nebraska ranks #11 in the Big 10, which is the highest rated
conference by a good margin. Only Penn State is ranked lower, at
#140. Massey predicts NU to go 8-15 the rest of the year to finish
at 14-16 with likely losses against Creighton and @Oregon, victories
aagainst the other three non-conference opponents, and about a 4-14
conference record. He rates the best opportunities for conference
wins:
PSU 74%
Iowa 51%
@PSU 49%
Northwestern 46%
Purdue 44%
Wiconsin 33%
Illinois 31%
I'm surprised that @Iowa isn't a better possibility at only 25%.
I think Nebraska might surprise some teams, but it still seems like
4 home conference wins and 1 road conference wins would be a good
result and 6 home conference wins and 2 road conference wins would
be great. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nebraska finish with a
winning record, e.g., 16-14, but the Big 10 is really, really good
with six teams in Massey's top 22. Basically, you've got to be one
of the best teams in the country to finish in the top half of the
conference.
Creighton at home should be a good test for a team that is playing
for a new coach. Hopefully, it will be a good game.
