I didn't say that NU can't be a top ten program. They can be,
especially with the many positives: attendance, facilities, funding,
etc. With all of those things, NU should be among the best teams
in the country. Over the last five years, their record has been
among the best in the country. I wouldn't surprise me if NU is
in the top 10 wrt wins and losses over the last five years. If they
aren't, I'll bet they're close. (Does anyone know where NU ranks?)

What I'm saying is that it is VERY difficult. Many very dedicated
groups are working at fever pitch at scores of other places. The
endeavor depends on groups of young men, who can be quite unpredictable.
There are unforseen events, such as injuries. Bill Snyder is a freak
of success. I think what he has done may be more remarkable than
what Osborne did. Men like TO and Snyder are unbelievably rare.

So, if it is very difficult, the solution can't just be to start
over every year or every few years that things don't go right and
expect you'll hire a new TO and everything will be smooth sailing.
Even TO didn't have smooth sailing and people wanted to fire him
after many seasons.

At some points, you must start over, but we aren't even close to
that point now. Right now, NU is a successful program with healthy
expectations to be better. I'm okay with that.
