Good post, Rob! I agree completely. I was glad you reminded the list of past failures. The Florida team we beat so handily was national champion the following year.

Personally, I thought that it would be Nebraska that laid the wood to Wisconsin and not the other way around. But as someone pointed out, Wisconsin did have 3 weeks to prepare and it definitely showed. Are they a better team than Nebraska? Well, on Saturday they were. But I do know that Wisconsin backed into the championship and Nebraska earned it's place there.
Nebraska was able to make to the B1G Championship their second year in the conference. Not too shabby, if you ask me. My hat is off to Wisconsin. Even though they backed in (if either Penn State or Ohio State were eligible, then Wisconsin would not be there), they made the most of it. They had nothing to lose and everything to gain by this game.
I do think that Nebraska's offense can be a little predictable. And when they get a behind, they abandon the run and have too many three and outs. Eventually, this puts the defense in a precarious position. Even if the offense does not score they need to sustain drives to let the defense catch its breath. And I do think that Nebraska is still finding its feet in the B1G. It will take another year or two for Nebraska to have cycled through their Big-XII players. Think about that, in their second season with defensive players recruited for a completely different type offenses they went to the championship game. Again, not too shabby.
I thought that Taylor Martinez's run would have provided the spark that Nebraska needed to get things rolling, but it was not to be. And Kenny Bell's hit was outstanding. It was too bad it got flagged. The officiating was too inconsistent. It would not have made a difference in the game, but I thought that Wisconsin got away with a lot more than they let Nebraska get away with.
I was at the 1996 Fiesta Bowl when Nebraska beat Florida 63-24. Florida was the second best team in the country then and would have been national champions if not for Nebraska. This is not the first time in which nothing goes the way it should and it won't be the last. I remember watching a Fiesta Bowl in which Florida State was able to convert on a third and 23 and beat Nebraska soundly. It was part ot seven bowl losses in a row for Nebraska. This is nothing new.
Am I disappointed? Heck yes, but the sun will rise again tomorrow. I am sure that players and coaches are more disappointed than we are. Wisconsin got healthy at the end of the season and Nebraska had some key injuries on defense at the end of the season. I was surprised that Nebraska did not move the linebackers further outside to stop the perimeter runs. I was wondering why the coaches in the booth that can see the entire field did not call for some adjustments. But that is how it goes.
Nebraska had a very good season so far, and hopefully will win their bowl game.
I for one am not ready to give up this team or the coaching staff.
Go B1G Red!
