I thought it was an interesting approach to the question, basically
it treated it as a Fermi problem.
I've used similar approaches many times over the years.
I've compared some Google numbers to actual website logs for sites I've
worked with, they're generally right on target--perhaps even alarmingly so.
I thought it somewhat underestimated Nebraska and somewhat overestimated
Northwestern, the two schools I'm most familiar with.
As I recall, Nebraska is in the top 5 when it comes to sales of
licensed collegiate branded products.
Wouldn't you just love to see what data ESPN uses when it tries to figure
out how much it can afford to pay for all those conference agreements?
