I don't think Martin was saying they weren't making tackles, but more
'where' they were making tackles. Stepping forward and filling a gap vs.
holding your ground and waiting for the ball carrier to come to you.
I read some stuff like this before the season. Comments that our LBs, and
they seemed to mostly be talking about David mostly, were good at running
people down and tackling them, but how were they going to fare when RBs were
running straight at them? David is an excellent tackler and plays with no
fear, but he is kind of light and one of his strongest assets is his speed.
But if RBs are running right at you out of these pro style sets, your speed
is negated and size becomes more important. Whatever. But maybe Fresno
State showed there is some truth to this. They were certainly running right
at the defense, and with pretty darn good success. (whoda thought
that?...not me) Damn straight Bo isn't happy with their performance, I'm
not sure Bo is happy with anyone's performance Saturday night.
