I'm not sure ANY school automatically brings with it the greater NYC
market.  Not that many people in New Jersey are that passionate about
Rutgers football, and Syracuse is way up north.  

The closest football programs, and possibly the ones with the biggest
local alumni/fan base, are the Ivy League schools and Fordham (where 
Lombardi played).  From what I've seen, there are more fanatical Husker 
fans in the city than any of those schools.

Unless the Big Ten plans to invite Old Ivy to the party (breaking
up their rivalry against the Chipmunks), the NYC market is probably 
inaccessible.
