With all due respect, having lived in New Jersey most of my life, I don't know that Syracuse gives you access to New York City.  I don't think that GNYC players think of going to Syracuse as 'staying in-state' which may be what he's thinking .   Rutgers, OTOH, which recruits greater NYC pretty well, possibly does give you that access, not to mention access to all the players from NJ (Glover, Frya r, Peters, Rozier,  etc.)
