I didn't see the MSU game (that is my game trip to Lincoln this year!) but I
did watch quite a bit of the Wisconsin game.  Whiskey is pretty darn good,
they are going to score a lot of points and win a lot of games this year.
But I had the same impression as you did about their defense.  UNLV is a
really bad team and were completely out-manned, but I thought they ran the
ball on Wisconsin's defense pretty well, especially in the first half.  If
they can't stop some of these Big 10 teams on the ground, Nebraska for one,
then teams are going to pound it at them until their noses bleed. I expect
they will be giving this some attention in practice this week.
