Fellow Husker Fans,
Although we cannot wear our beloved Husker gear here at Kandahar Air Field,
Afghanistan, we Husker fans still find each other (uniforms or PT gear
only). I've run into a couple of fellow Husker fans. I'm hoping BTN2GO is
my ticket to the game. I'll have my jersey draped over the table or chair
while watching the game at about midnight Afghanistan time. Then, I'll
watch my son get married in Omaha at about 0300 Afghanistan time. I suspect
the game will be long over (score-wise) by then.
I also have a rabid Ohio State and Wisconsin fan in my office. Could be a
long deployment...or not!
GO BIG RED!!!

I was in Australia last summer, doing my best to follow the ongoing
situation with the Big Ten negotiations. During a tour of Sydney, along
pulls up a tour bus that disgorges a bunch of Nebraskans easily recognizable
from the high preponderance of Husker gear, so I walk up and without any
preliminaries we all started talking about the Big Ten situation. My
Tennessean in-laws hadn't a clue why from their point of view I suddenly was
the focal point of a bunch of strangers halfway around the world. (And as
it turns out, there was probably no more than one degree of separation with
quite a few of them. The group was from Columbus, both of my parents
families are from Platte, Madison and Boone counties.)
My Husker cold-weather gear also found me some friends in Vienna, Austria on
New Year's Day, 2005.
We truly are everywhere.
