The only downside is that it pretty much ensures that the Big Ten
will not factor into the National Championship picture this year, as
usual, and getting two BCS bids for the conference is by no means a
lock, either.
Right now there's a possibility that the Big Ten might not have enough
bowl-eligible teams to fill all its slots, Iowa's road just got a
little iffy (though Purdue is still on the schedule), Purdue still has to
win two more, and Northwestern has to win both of the games in which it
will be favored (Minnnesota and Rice) and then knock off either the Huskers
or the Spartans, not an easy task for a team that can score lots of
points but has real problems on defense.
Meanwhile, back in our old stomping grounds, KSU's bubble got burst
big-time by the Sooners, and Baylor had to score 21 in the 4th
quarter to look even somewhat respectable against Okie State.
Mizzou had a nice win over A&M though, a preview of their future
SEC rivalry?
