DReitsch has the Suh issue exactly right. This is a talking head created thing. One announcer asked Huey Long is Suh was a dirty player. Long responded that, "no, I wouldn't say that Suh is a dirty player, but I would say that he is a great finisher. Probably the best finisher in the NFL."

This all started with the talking heads on one of the NFL talk shows. After
Suh was fined for the third time since he showed up in the NFL, they asked
each other if he was a dirty player. Neither thought he was but they stated
that he better watch himself because he was getting that reputation. That's
how they started this rumor and all the other shows picked up on it. Then
the ref's decided they needed to watch him extra close. Now he can't cough
within earshot of the QB or he gets a flag. He plays violent and is so
strong he throws the QB's and RB's around like rag dolls. I live in MI and
have watched the Lions for years. They finally have a team worth watching.
Last year Suh was unstoppable. This year he is always double or triple
teamed and held by at least one OL on every play. If he manages to get to
the QB and takes him down it's a flag. A couple of weeks ago while
attempting to shed a blocker the QB ran into his arm with his facemask. You
guessed it; 15 yards. Suh was so mad that he kicked the drink barrel about
10 yards when he got to the sideline. The League is trying to neuter him
and it really pi__es me and every other Lion fan off! It's so obvious that
the ref's have it in for him that if a Lion player passed gas upwind of the
sideline official and he looked over and saw group of players on the
sideline and one of them was Suh, it would be 15 yards on Suh for
unsportsman like conduct.

Sports Illustrated has released its annual list of the 15 "meanest" players
in the NFL. This used to be a ranking of the 15 "dirtiest" players in the
NFL, but the name was changed last year, lest anyone think the magazine was
endorsing chop blocks or late hits on the quarterback. The results, based on
responses from 287 active NFL players:

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison
Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis
Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh
Oakland Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour
Miami Dolphins offensive guard Richie Incognito
Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs
St. Louis Rams offensive guard Harvey Dahl
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward
Washington Redskins strong safety LaRon Landry
New Orleans Saints center Olin Kreutz
Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith
Detroit Lions running back Jerome Harrison
Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan
Buffalo Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman

I had not heard this before. Are there sources that support it?

Watching Ill. and OSU. Braxton Miller throws the worst looking ball I have ever seen. That thing makes real Ducks look like Swans. Heck, punters hit better spirals and so does my 6 years old daughter. Kent in Phoenix.

So, Ohio State bounces back and beat Illinois on the road.

This says a lot about the character of the Buckeyes and what a good win Nebraska last Saturday night.

Nebraska still controls its own destiny in the Legends division.

Losing Jared Crick will hurt, but it may make the other defensive line players step up.

Hopefully Nebraska heals up and gets through the Minnesota game without any injuries. And that Nebraska does not look past Minnesota and gets into trouble with turn overs or penalties.

Go Big Red!

Getting those players back is making a big difference for OSU. They're
starting to look like the collection of talent they are. We may need
them to beat Michigan for us to get into the championship game.

MSU beat Michigan today. I appears the B1G is beating each other up. If the Huskers can finish I look for a different team in the championship game. GBR

Beating each other up has been a frequent event in the Big Ten for years,
which is one reason why the Big Ten Conference went so many years without
a national championship.

I watched the MSU UM game. The thing that impressed me the most was MSU's
defense. They were rated the No.1 defense in the country before the game.
I was not a believer thinking they hadn't played a good offense but they
made a believer out of me. It will be hard to score on them.

They are a good defense but could be labeled "dirty."? #44 piled on and twisted Robinson's facemask in the pile.? A few plays later he punched a Mich. player.? He should have been ejected from the game.? I am worried one of our players will be injured in our game against them.? I hope not.? What good is a 15 yard penalty if Taylor or Rex is knocked out for the rest of the year.

Michigan State has had a rep of playing dirty in the Big Ten for years.

Different coach, same cheap shots.

But if the officials or the Big Ten office won't take action against
dirty players, the teams won't stop doing it.

Well, regardless of whether they get away with murder or not, they are
a formidable defense. I can't say I'm terribly worried about their
offense, but they managed to score 28 on an improved Michigan defense,
so it will be a concern for the Huskers. They did just enough to keep
the ball moving and keep their defense rested. I know folks talk
about their QB but I was underwhelmed by his throwing yesterday. But
he did run the offense well, "managed the game" in coachspeak.

But on the defensive side, they blitz very well, almost instinctively.
They had at least one back or linebacker in the Michigan backfield
all day on Saturday. Robinson had considerable difficulty running the
offense under those conditions; he didn't have much time to throw, and
wasn't able to run the option efficiently. His first score came on a
broken tackle in his own backfield where he was able to get outside
and into the endzone. The rest of the game was a struggle for
Michigan on offense.

For the Huskers, playing Michigan State, even in Lincoln, is going to
be difficult. I suspect they believe that pressuring Martinez will
get him to do the wrong thing at the wrong time, forcing turnovers.
They are very good at getting someone, either a back, end, or
linebacker to jump the option, forcing the pitch. So, if they can
disrupt the option, and pressure the passing game, they anticipate
turnovers, or at least lots of three and outs. Michigan doesn't seem
to do a lot of running directly at the defense, so I can't say how
that might work against MSU, but they seem very active and they seem
to move to the ball very well.

So, I'm curious what others think the Huskers might do to try and
negate what Michigan State seems to do really well. Clearly our run
defense needs to get better, but assuming we can slow them, we'll have
to figure out a way to out score them - perhaps not a great strategy
against that defense.

And yes, I'm overlooking Minnesota. If we don't hang at least 40 on
them, we won't have much of a chance to score on anyone else on our
schedule. Just sayin'

Nick
