I am one of the listers that have written that we fans are little spoiled. I say this because when things do not go well inevitably the conversation turns to the 'glory days' during Tom Osborne's last five years. Yes, it was a long time ago but he Nebraskans have long memories. How long did Tom Osborne have to hear about the back to back Championships from 1970 and 1971, yes until he won his first in 1994 at the 1995 Orange Bowl. In fact, up until that win and even through today we still relive the decision to go for a two point conversion in the Orange Bowl.

So, until Coach Pelini wins a National Championship, or unless we fans learn to have patience in the process, we will be spoiled by Tom Osborne's last five seasons has a head coach at Nebraska.

This is not a slight on Nebraskans or Nebraska Football fans. It is just how we are. We love our Huskers and hurt when they lose and are elated when they win. Maybe it's because of the ribbing we take at the water cooler by fans of bigger states, more prestigious universities, or other conferences. Nobody but Nebraskans understand why this little state in the heartland of our nation can produce a college football team that has risen to national prominence.

I contend that Nebraska is the measuring stick that college football is measured by. Beat Nebraska and your program has made it. The responses of traveling teams starting with Bobby Bowden's letter after upsetting Nebraska to the Penn State fan's comments about being happy it was the Cornhuskers that played the game in Happy Valley last week. All this points to the phenomenon that is Nebraska Football.

Whether your are an alumni or just a football fan, we are one big family. And like all families we will argue with each other tooth and nail, but pick on our Huskers and we will join together to defend them.

Go Big Red!
