[Husker] B1G to this point and the Nebraska Defense This Season

I too find it a breath of fresh air to be in the B1G. Last evening, when heading out to get supper a guy in a Michigan jacket walked in. Of course, I said, "Oh no, the enemy." He looked a little confused until he saw my Nebraska shirt, and went on to say that he was surprised by how well Michigan played yesterday. We talked about be Nebraska being in the B1G and being away from Texas. He said that he was happy to have Nebraska in the conference and we both agreed that yesterday may be the beginning of a new rivalry.

As for the defense, the times they looked bad this season they were on the field for a long time. Generally, we look to the defense to make up for the offense. But too many three and outs is just too much to ask. I for one, do not believe that Nebraska needs to score on every possession, but they should sustain drives getting 1 or 2 first downs to let the defense rest. Of course, as I have posted here before, Nebraska is putting in a new offense and have to play in a new conference so this is an up hill battle.

Over all I would give the team a B to B+ across the board. They would be a solid B+ if they did not have some melt downs. But I just do not see things as that bad. As the coaches get used to the B1G and Nebraska gets through next season, what out. It will be a lot easier two years from now without Wisconsin and Ohio State on the schedule. Taylor Martinez will be a senior (if he sticks around, and I hope that he does) and the young stud running backs will be experienced.

Even with the short week, I think that the coaches will the team ready to play. The only thing that could cause a let down, it loosing an opportunity to play in the B1G Championship game. Hopefully, the coaches will keep the team's chin up and get them ready for a post turkey Hawkeye feast!
