The new Penn State president stated that he is looking at Penn State policies to ensure that not only is the law being followed, but the correct thing is also being done. It could be that there was a policy in place to follow the law to avoid potential legal issues. I am not condoning or justifying any actions by Penn State coaches, campus police, or administrators. I am just pointing out what may have been a policy issue that lead to the lack of action. There is evidence in the grand jury report that former AD Curly and the other administrator were more concerned about saving Penn State's reputation than doing the right thing.
I do believe that if he Board of Trustees have specific evidence that shows Coach Paterno had knowledge and did nothing, they should have released it right away. Any drip, drip, drip will keep the story fresh and create a lot of confusion and controversy. When Coach Paterno was originally fired I believed that as the most visible person at Penn State he was being targeted. A lot of my co-workers felt the same way. Upon further review, it looks like there is a lot more information that we have not seen. I realize that there is still an active investigation going on, but the Board of Trustees should have provided some clarity as to their decisions.
I have to say that it makes me proud to be a Nebraska alumni with the classy way the team, coaches, and fans conducted themselves on Saturday. It really does show that "There is no place like Nebraska.".
And those are my final thoughts on this mess. I will let the courts do their job and let justice be served.
Mike, I appreciate you providing us this forum to vent our frustrations; attempt to sway others opinions to our points of view; and to celebrate all things Nebraska. When bad things happen, it is good to have a way to vent and release bent up emotions.
And now onto Nebraska at Michigan. If you look at the stats comparisons, on paper Michigan looks to be slightly better than Nebraska. But I believe that Nebraska has already seen the best defense that they will face. Michigan has a decent defense, but Nebraska should be able to move the ball on them. With Taylor Martinez's passing improving over the past two games Nebraska has more options on offense. The receivers need to improve their catching. All the dropped passed have really hurt Nebraska's offense.
The defense should be able to contain Michigan. Their mobile quarterback may give Nebraska some fits, but they stick to their schemes and over pursue they should have a good day. Special teams are doing well. They need to contain when punting or kicking off. Nebraska's punting and kicking has been very consistent all season long. The punting game may keep Nebraska in this early on in the game. The ability to flip the field if very important, especially in a hostile environment.
It was good that Nebraska at stadium with over 100,000 before heading to Michigan. While it will be loud, Nebraska has already experienced this kind of environment and should not be rattled by it.
This game is could be close or a blow out. I believe that either way Nebraska will be on top. I may change my prediction later this week, but right now I see it as:
Nebraska 35
Michigan 17
Go Big Red!
