Actually, he didn't say that all of the coaches should be fired --- he
said that he believed every coach and their spouses knew of these rumors
and allegations.

To wit, do you believe these folks didn't know?

I will say that "all the coaches should be fired".  The wisdom of the
board cutting loose Spanier and Paterno is pretty evident in
hindsight.  I thought for several days before that it was the only
sensible course of action they could take.  It is best to make a clean
slate and let the new AD bring in a new coach who would want to have a
new staff --- and that might include trainers, etc.  (And, the new staff
would get to bring their own wives, not keep the wives of the previous
staff.)  That is just the best way to go forward.  And, it is pretty
typical when the head coach is replaced even in more ordinary
circumstances.  Here, the case for a fresh start is even more
compelling.
