Correct, Michigan State still has to lose a game. If Nebraska wins out,
that would knock Iowa and Michigan out of any possibility of a tie
for first place in the division, since that would give them three
losses. But Michigan State still needs to lose another game
to somebody to drop into a tie with Nebraska. Nebraska would win
that tiebreak because they defeated MSU. Iowa seems to be the most
likely candidate for a MSU loss, but I would not rule out my Wildcats.
(I think they owe MSU a little payback, too.)
And if Nebraska loses to Penn State, that doesn't quite knock them out
of the race, but then Michigan State would have to lose twice to create
a tie. If the Huskers also defeat Iowa and Michigan, then I think
they'd win the tiebreaks against those teams in the event of a three or
four way tie.
It's going to be a channel-switching Saturday for me, because the
Nebraska-Penn State, Michigan State-Iowa and Rice-Northwestern
games are all in the 11AM CT slot, as is Oklahoma State-Texas Tech.
And I may have to spend part of the day on a conference call, too.
