[Husker] Tressel Out

Considering all of the NCAA scrutiny, I think any elite candidate wants to know
how big of a hole Ohio State is in before they jump in. There are going to be
sanctions and scholarship restrictions. If it's just 3 to 5, some people will
just waive it off and jump in.

If it's 10 a year for the next three years, like what happened to USC, I think
many elite coaches will look away. Imagine being the Ohio State head coach in
2015, and only having 55 scholarship players on the roster. If you've already
got a pretty good job, why would you want to jump into that mess? Sure, they'll
have a really good recruiting class after that because so many positions on the
team will be open, and they'll be fine in, say 2018-19... but why would someone
give up a job at Oklahoma or Nebraska for THAT?

If I'm Ohio State, I'm biding my time and getting ready to swallow my medicine.
Once the NCAA acts, you'll know what you've got and decide if you can target an
elite coach (i.e. Urban Meyer) or need to bring in somebody to clean things up
while paying the price for Tressel. It's the difference between being able to
name your next coach and having your pick, and likely having to look to the MAC
or division 1-AA for a coach. (Though 1-AA didn't turn out well for Ohio State
the last time they tried it, though it was quite a ride for the first 10
years...)

To me the thing worse than the possibility of Bo going to Ohio State
is the prospect of them not naming a coach and having to live with the
distraction of people TALKING about it through the next season.

I don't see how OSU can delay a head coaching decision. My bet is that
the position that they will wait until after the season that it is a
smokescreen.
