[Husker] Old news question

Hey Listers, sorry to dredge up a sore subject but a friend of mine was razzing me the other day about Lawrence Phillips and how he was able to play even though he was convicted of a felony back in 1995, but I am quite sure that even though he was a thug and did some pretty bad stuff, the judicial process for the incident in question had not been completed yet during that season- am I correct in remembering it that way? I am not saying it was handled right or wrong, but I do get tired of folks around here bashing Dr. Tom for things that are sometimes misreported. Was Phillips already found guilty of anything when reinstated by Osborne?

Please respond off the list if anyone has info about this or a link, I don't want to dig up old wounds here, but I do want to have ammo to counter argue with my friend who bashes Nebraska every chance he gets! Obviously Phillips was a criminal but I just wanted to review the facts about the 'domestic' incident in '95 if I could. Thanks.
