It's really odd, but I always seem to come down with "flu-like symptoms" the day after Thanksgiving...

The "rivalry" game schedule really was the only reason for moving Nebraska/Iowa to Friday that made any sense. Thanksgiving Friday wasn't much of a Nebraska tradition, if it was one at all. It was something that ABC tried to jam down Nebraska's throat with Colorado. Most Nebraska/Oklahoma (including the majority of the classic ones) were played before Thanksgiving. Game of the Century was actually on Thanksgiving. The first one I attended, the Ruud-blasting-Phelps and Billy-Sims-fumbles-at-the-three game in 1978 was on Veterans Day, two weeks before Thanksgiving.
With Michigan/Ohio State and Penn State/Wisconsin already on tap for Saturday, it makes sense to slide Nebraska/Iowa to Friday. But not because of this so-called "tradition" with Colorado. Not everybody gets that day off, so it's not exactly convenient for some people.

Right, there was some talk of having all the conference 'rivalry' games
on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, which IMHO is a pathetically stupid
idea, almost as bad as having multiple Big Ten bowl games running
at the same time on New Years Day, so that you can't watch them all.
(The fact that the conference pretty much laid an egg in those games
is a separate issue.)
Sounds like someone (ABC?) finally wised up on this game, but it will
take major bowl re-shaping to fix the New Years fiasco.
