It's been rumored for some time, dating back to the Steve Pederson era.
Actually, when you think of Huskers Nside, it's probably existed in one form or
another for over 10 years.
I don't know how viable it would have been, however. It would almost assuredly
force most Husker fans to get a dish, as I seriously doubt that a Nebraska
network would attract much interest from cable companies, especially outside of
Nebraska. Heck, BTN and the NFL Network still haven't hit 50% of homes
nationally.
Obviously, having rights to one home game each year would be tough for any
in-state cable company to pass up.

In referring to having to give up TV rights for away games, Tom Osborne had this
comment:
"We were probably as far along as Texas at one point in terms of starting our
own network," said Osborne. "We were planning to start it this summer. We
obviously had to cancel that plan."

Had anyone heard that the Huskers were looking to start their own network?
This article also has very nice detail into the logistics of switching
conferences.
