I agree. If it were my son the answer I'd give him is that golden
opportunities don't always happen twice and football will still be there in
three years if you don't like pro baseball. It might be different if I
thought the wealth would be destructive to him, some people can handle it
many cannot, but other than that this seems like an easy decision.
The Royals are up against a wall and Bubba holds all the cards. They picked
a home state hero who will draw interest, and local talent of this caliber
doesn't fall out of trees every day of the week. For the Royals to make this
choice says to me that they are dead serious and probably already had
conversations with the family about this.
I don't begrudge this to Bubba at all. The potential upside? He's right down
the road and not in LA or someplace where it would be easy to fall out of
touch.
My guess is that it is more likely that Bubba Starling with be a Royal than
it is for my 401K to provide me with a decent retirement :)
