Lynette,
The REALLY amusing thing is that it is true . . . THAT IS the original name of the school! (As was the case with the naming of the majority of the land grant colleges founded under the Morrill Act of 1862.) Happily, as I understand it, our Alma Mater avoided that sobriquet by establishing the Ag campus as a combined, but separated, entity working as an Ag school freeing the folks downtown to take on the title of UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA! Cool, eh?
The source of this info is a muddle of half-remembered conversations with Doctor Bob Knoll, a friend, a delightful professor of English and the Author of a dynamite history of the U. Since the info probably exists only in my memory it doubtless falls into the category of "hearsay". Nonetheless, you would do well to get the book "Prairie University: and discover what a serious, and amusing, scholar Bob was. (And, what a serious and sometimes amusing place our University was and is)
This is the sort of product from someone at the University that does for me what remembering he played football for Nebraska does for Barry Alvarez: "It makes me proud!"

'S funny, I've always thought of it as the State of Ohio College of Agriculture and Mechanics.
