The Cornhuskers got one of the biggest wins in Doc Sadler's tenure at
Nebraska today with a tremendous second half performance at the Devaney
Center. The Huskers trailed 31-24 at the half, but held the Aggies to five
for 21 from the field in the second half -- just two hoops from the field in
the last ten minutes. NU outscored A&M 33-17 in the second half! This was
a grinder . and you knew it would be going in. A crowd of just over 11,000
was one of the more vocal crowds in recent memory. Nebraska improved to 3-3
in the conference, 15-5 overall.

The Huskers shot 44 percent from the field for the game. A&M was shooting
over 50 percent from the field heading into the second half, but ended up at
only 39 percent for the game. Great defensive effort by NU. Lots of
double-teaming the low post throughout the game. Middleton, A&M's top
scorer, ended up fouling out. One of the big differences in the game was
Nebraska shooting 70 percent from the free throw line (12-17) while A&M
bricked their way to 43 percent (6-14).

Lance Jeter struggled from the perimeter and missed a couple of free throws
late, but when it was "winning time" in the second half, he's the guy who
made the plays when the game was turning in the Huskers favor. Taking the
ball all the way to the whole, the length of the floor, just daring anyone
to step in and take a charge from the 6-foot-3, 230 pound senior point
guard. Lance is a winner.

Eshaunte "Bear" Jones has had his struggles this year, but he hit a huge
shot from behind the arc at about the one-minute mark to really seal A&M's
fate. NU hit only 3 for 15 from behind the arc today. In the second half,
you were hoping they'd just pound it down low and quit shooting 3's. And
that's just what they did.

Brian Diaz has been criticized for lacking in aggression at times, but he's
never shown an unwillingness to take the ball on the blocks and try to
score. He led NU with 16 points today. Played with four fouls late in the
game after back-up big man Andre Almeida injured his ankle. Andre had his
shoe off and his ankle packed in ice as he left the floor after the game.
I'd be shocked if he doesn't miss some time. Wish we could get oft-injured
big man Christopher Niemann in the game for a handful of minutes this next
week.

NU was staring at their season spiraling out-of-their-control if they lost
this one. Someone lit a fire at halftime and they got a well deserved and
much needed win over a real good team. Great effort. Everyone contributed.
Brandon Richardson looks like he's starting to play better. Reserve forward
Brandon Ubel did some good things. Caleb Walker is a good athlete and plays
with tenacity. He can score, rebound and play defense. His athletic and
defensive ability alone mandate his playing time.

Huskers play Kansas State in Manhattan Wednesday night. Kansas State plays
in Lawrence tonight on ESPN. I hope KU mauls K-State and they're fighting
with each other when the Huskers come to town mid-week.

Kansas visits the Devaney Center on Saturday.
