[Husker] Was the season a success?

I was listening to the "Big Red Wrap Up" podcast from Jan. 12 - the bowl
game and season recap episode. Kugler and Fiala. Lots of things that are
really interesting in there. Bo's play call promise was one. Another was a
roundtable of some of the local press asking: "can anyone come up with a
good reason for Watson to continue as OC?" (No one could). But they were
also talking about the results of the poll question "Do you think the season
as a whole was a success?" Poll was taken after the bowl game. (I have no
details on the poll itself.)
I think it was 56% no, 37% yes, 7% I don't know. So I thought about it. I
guess I would have to be in the "no" column, I don't think the season was a
success, but that doesn't make it a failure. We had some good wins
(Missouri, OSU) and some major excitement (TM vs. KSU and Helu vs. MU come
to mind). But the biggest games of the year, Texas and Oklahoma, we lost
and looked bad doing it. A&M was an embarrassment to the program. And I
don't have a high opinion of bowl games as they are exhibitions staged by
businesses to make a profit, but from a purely football standpoint, we were
just awful in that one. There sure were some huge ups and huge downs over
the 14 games. So I can't say I feel it was a success, but it definitely
wasn't a failure. Somewhere in that middle ground.
