The new Miss America is from Gering, Ne. It is just across the Platte River
from Scottsbluff.
That is my where I grew up. Nice part of Nebraska with rolling hills and
starting to feel the effects of the Rockies.

Not quit the youngest. A 14 year old girl won in way back when then in 1938
there was an age limit put in. She is the youngest one since the injection of
the age limit.

They still have AM radio??
I'm not sure when I last listened to AM radio for more than a few minutes. I
have Sirius
satellite radio in my car.
I sometimes turn the bedside radio on to hear the hourly news or to try to catch
the weather.
The latter is often a fruitless task, even the *&^%^ weather channel on cable
tends to run 'features'
when all I want is to see what the weather forecast is.
Thankfully there's Weather Underground on the Internet!

Cool. I emailed 1620 asking about the weekend morning shows. They are going to
carry 1 hour of the Stocks and Jocks show on Saturday 6-7 and 2 hours of Raceday
on Fox 6-8 on Sunday

This is what interests me. How do you initiate that call?
"Hi, is this 590? OK, this is 1620 and we want FSR and we want you to take
ESPN. OK? Great."
810 WHB in K.C. is another ESPN affiliate that I don't understand paying the
fees. They are also very driven by local programming and paying the ESPN tax
just does not make sense. I think the syndicated weekend programming for FSR is
better, and frankly, I think the weekend programming for Sporting News Radio is
better. I'd rather listen to Sporting News Radio stuff half the time than the
network ESPN guys. SNR has some decent shows. I'm surprised 590 didn't go for
SNR to save money instead of ESPN.
On the national syndication stuff, I don't get FSR dumping Steve Czaban and
putting Steven A Smith on. I used to listen to FSR in the mornings when I was
tired of Mike-n-Mike. Now I just throw the SNR stream on my iPod while getting
ready in the AM to listen to Czab when I'm tired of M-n-M.

The "Schick & Nick" show is a local production, and will continue from 8 am to
11 am. The time change is to accomodate the Jim Rose show at 11 am.
"Unsportsmanlike Conduct" with Kevin Kugler and Mike'l Severe will be
unaffected, and will continue to run from 2 pm to 6 pm.
ESPN has been charging it's affiliates larger sums of money to carry ESPN Radio
programming, and since 1620 AM is primarily driven by their local programming (2
daily sports shows plus numerous local programs), the ESPN affiliation became
less attractive.
What's not known is what drove this decision: KOZN-1620 AM, KOSR-590 AM, or
ESPN Corporate. ESPN probably wasn't happy with many of their shows being
pre-empted, and KOSR has consistently ranked at the bottom of the local ratings
in recent years, and desperately needed something to justify keeping the
transmitter turned on.

I can tolerate Rome, but I don't listen to much radio anymore - podcasts on my
ipod has replaced it.
However... I didn't care for Rose when he was broadcasting Nebraska sports. If
anyone is a fan, can you tell me what you like about him?

After I found out that 590 wasn't carrying the Chiefs this year, I called the
sports director and told him there wasn't any reason for me to listen to 590 any

I have XM, now Sirius/XM too, but I last listened to AM this
weekend because it's easier to find the NFL playoffs on AM
than on XM. Usually, I listen to the Huskers on AM if I'm
not at the game or watching TV.
