[Husker] Kind of sad.....

I think this article is getting exactly the response from this list as it
was intended to get from the public.

First, I did not hear any direct quotes from the serviceman. I read a lot
of conjecture from the reporter on what the young man felt and was thinking.
But nothing from him, other than he remained "strong" and supported his team
and coach. (My interpretation, someone is making a mountain out of a
molehill.)

Second, whatever Bo promised or didn't promise may have gone out the window
when the game was close. Remember, this was a team we beat by 30+ points at
the beginning of the season. However, the game played out very differently.

OK, maybe let the kid call the first play from scrimmage. But, how does that
really work. Does he draw it up on a chalkboard or napkin and give it to
Watson to run without being practiced? Or, do we give him a copy of the
gameplan and playbook to make a call informed call using our nomenclature?
That is a ridiculous assumption. When I have seen this done before, the
person was allowed to draw up a play and the team had it a week in advanced
and practiced it during the week. That clearly was not going to happen.

Finally, think of the S###storm that would have fallen on BP if this had
been done. Young serviceman calls a unpracticed play in a close bowl play
only to see the ball intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Would we all
have been smiling and golf clapping for Bo being a good sport?

This was an article that was clearly written to present BP in a bad light.
Did he contribute...sure. Does he not handle the media well, yes. But let's
at least not get sucked into the ruse.
