[Husker] Shatel: Pelini Making Calls to NFL for Watson

I gotta say I really don't think any coach owes anything to the media or the
public. As a Husker fan, I have no specific right to know who is starting at
any position before kickoff. It also does not bother me at all not knowing who
is starting at what positions. I also do not have a right to know who is going
to be on the coaching staff next year and the media does not have a right to
timely press conferences where the coach tells all.

While I find it interesting to speculate who will be the new OC, and I have the
right and reserve the right to not like the current OC and wish him to not be on
the team, I do not have a right to know anything on the inside, and that
includes getting an answer from the coach on the question on if the current OC
is going to be replaced.

Fans and media simply do not have "rights" like this. I understand some fans
are so "fanatical" that they feel they are part owners of the team, but I feel
the simple fact of the matter is we are not part owners, even of the Huskers,
who play football for a state, publicly funded University. I'm no more of a
part owner of the UNL Huskers than I am of the UNK Lopers or the UNO Mavs or
Wayne State or Chadron State

In the very first example I laid out.
Monday before the Big XII Champ
We won't decide who's starting until Friday or Saturday" (Paraphrased)
After the Big XII Champ
We knew Monday morning, I just didn't want you guys to know".
That is a flat out lie and a straight admission to it after the game.

Where did you show he flat lied? Where did you show he admitted it?
These are some serious accusations you are making.

And I've shown where not only has he flat lied, but admitted as much.
nteresting he can admit it and others can't.
On a side note, I was raised that 'technically' not lying is pretty much the
ame as lying. But that's just me.

nsofar as drinking the "cool-aid", I have been critical on this list
f Bo's demeanor with the press and otherwise. While he is understandably
ggravated by reporters or officials etc., he needs to exhibit more
elf-control.
However, your claim that he lies over and over is unsupported by what
ou write. Every example that you presented doesn't support your claim,
s I and others have pointed out. I addressed previously your example
bout not knowing the starter until the first play of the game ---
hat is true of anyone who isn't claivoyant. So, Bo was not lying.
imilarly, someone isn't hired until the contracts have been signed,
ven if there are understandings as to the critical aspects of the
ontract.
In my opinion, you feel pretty free to throw around pretty strong
ords --- such as lying --- without much or even any evidence. Does
o tell reporters everything, e.g., that they planned to start Martinez
r that they plan to hire a coach? No, he doesn't. But, that isn't
ying --- at least as I understand what lying is. There are times
hen sticking to what facts suit you --- such as the _fact_ that events
uch as an injury could change the starter or the _fact_ that the contract
adn't been signed ergo no one had been hired --- is the sensible course
f action.

> Scott, let me reiterate AGAIN. I have ABSOLUTELY ZERO PROBLEM with Bo
holding things back from the media. NONE. NOT A SINGLE BIT. I
ersonally
have no problem flipping on the game Saturday and finding out who the
starting QB is when the offense takes over for the first time. NONE AT
LL.

There's a HUGE difference between holding things back and flat out lying
o
the media. And even if every once in a while he was just doing a little
'gamesmanship' with the opposing coaches, I could deal with that. That's
not what we're dealing with.
