I wouldn't know, I didn't take accounting until I was in grad school, by
which point in time I had already spent several years writing
accounting software. :-)

However, I know several people in the motion picture business, where
both 'revenue' and 'profit' are so commonly manipulated that they have 
been the subject of a number of high profile lawsuits.

Writer John Gregory Dunne once wrote that he had 'brownie' points on 
a film that made so much money that even he got a check!
