[Husker] rumors abound

I agree Skylar. If Watson is coaching here next fall I would be willing to provide dinner for Steve. Bo will not keep a coach to keep one recruit, especially a recruit who most likely will not be on the roster this fall.
As far as Phillips for OC I don't know that his philosophy fits with what Bo is trying to do. I am not sure the quarterbacks we have recruited in the last three years fit an offense that is over 60% passing.
Some wonder if Frost will leave Oregon for anything but a coordinator's job.
Sipple says Ross Els who coaches linebackers for Frank is interviewing with Bo today.

Subject: RE: [Husker] rumors abound
I would be a decent amount of money that Watson will not be on the staff in
ny form. The idea that Bo would keep a coach to keep one recruit
nterested is absurd. Also, outside of the last month (I believe because of
hanges coming) Sanders has NOT been non-existent in recruiting.
If we're going rumors, the most plausible in my mind is this:
Watson, Gilmore and Sanders are gone (Sanders because of off the field
ssues).
New OC is the OC for Houston (Phillips)
eck moves to QB coach
cott Frost comes in as RB coach (Phillips is a WR guy)
orey Raymond is the new DB coach
B Coach - Not sure yet :)

From a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy ... you know the drill.
ho knows -- sounds plausible??
Steve
Supposedly Watson has been moved to QB coach/associate head coach
just to keep the interest of Bubba, who loves Watson and to better
et his name as a future head coach elsewhere). Ted Gilmore is gone
o make room for Jason Philips (below). Gilmore has been nonexistent
hen it comes to recruiting. Sanders is also gone to make way for the
ndiana DB coach who IS a strong recruiter, again Sanders has been
onexistent when it comes to recruiting. All hear say for now but
ome slight rumors to get the blood pumping J.
s you may or may not know, all three - Watson, Gilmore & Sanders
issed last night's recruiting dinner??? And the current Indiana
oach spilled the beans yesterday that he lost one of his coaches to NU.
This guy might just be on the wish list of the rumor mill and never
eave Houston. Looks like from his bio that he's had pretty good ties
o the Texas area for some time now, so this could be wishful thinking.
Jason Phillips
Jason Phillips is in his eighth year at the University of Houston,
ecently being promoted to offensive coordinator while still mentoring
he Cougar wide receivers.
he recent promotion continues the upward arc of his career after he
pent two seasons as the co-offensive coordinator and recruiting
oordinator as well as wide receivers coach.
hillips is a star on the rise, having been selected to participate in
he 2008 NCAA Coaches Academy Program and the 2010 NCAA Champions
orum, both of which were designed to identify and nurture minority
uture head coaching candidates.
uring his tenure at UH, Phillips has worked with stellar wide
eceivers such as Brandon Middleton, Vincent Marshall, Jeron Harvey,
iren Ealy and most recently Donnie Avery, the first wide receiver
aken in the 2008 NFL Draft.
n 2009, Phillips tutored the trio of James Cleveland, Patrick Edwards
nd Tyron Carrier to All-Conference USA accolades. Cleveland was named
he Newcomer of the Year, Edwards was selected to the C-USA Second
eam, while Carrier was an Honorable Mention. All three posted 1,000-
ard receiving seasons, becoming only the fourth trio in NCAA history
o accomplish that feat.
ll starred under the tutelage of Phillips, himself a consensus All-
merica wide receiver during his playing days at the University of
ouston. Phillips has clearly shown that he has the ability to
ommunicate his ideas and pass on the benefit of his experiences to
oung players.
n 2008, Phillips guided Carrier to an All-C-USA Second Team selection
nd a spot on the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
n 2003, Middleton was a first-team All-C-USA pick and All-America
onorable Mention after setting a conference record with his 1,250
eceiving yards. Middleton, one of the greatest deep threats in school
istory, amassed that yardage total on only 55 catches and averaged
3.4 yards per reception for his career (103 catches, 2,410 yards).
arshall finished his career as the Cougars' all-time leader in
eceptions (272) and yards (3,770). Avery, a First-Team All-C-USA pick
n 2007, holds UH single-game records for receiving yards (346) and
ll-purpose yards (427). Phillips has also proven that he can make a
uick impact, mentoring two C-USA All-Freshman receivers in Avery and
eonard Gibson.
native Houstonian who played at Ross Sterling High School, Phillips
irst made his mark at the University of Houston by hauling in passes
rom Heisman Trophy quarterback Andre Ware during the Cougars high-
lying, high-scoring Run `N Shoot heyday. Phillips led the nation in
eceiving yards in 1987 (875 yards) and 1988 (1,444), the first player
ince Tulsa's Howard Twilley accomplished that feat 23 years earlier.
n 1987 Phillips not only was an All-Southwest Conference pick and the
WC Newcomer of the Year, but was also selected to the UPI All-America
eam. The following year Phillips was named to the All-SWC First Team,
as the SWC Co-Offensive Player of the Year and a Consensus First-Team
ll-America pick. He was also selected to the SWC's All-Decade Team
or the 80s and in 2006 Phillips' spectacular contributions to the
rogram were recognized when he was inducted into the Houston Hall of
onor.
ith his offensive numbers, he continues to rank among the NCAA all-
ime leaders. Entering the 2010 season, Phillips ranks fourth with 9.4
eceptions per game during his career. He joined with James Dixon in
988 as the first teammates to record 1,000-yard receiving seasons in
he same year. That electrifying combo remains the only unit to rank
-2 in catches per game in the NCAA in the same season.
hillips was drafted by Detroit in 1989, where he set a rookie record
ith a 10-catch, 155-yard performance against the Tampa Bay
uccaneers. Phillips enjoyed an eight-year professional career,
laying six seasons in the NFL and two in the CFL before moving into
he coaching ranks.
n 2001 he coached as an offensive intern for the Minnesota Vikings,
orking under head coach Dennis Green and offensive coordinator
herman Lewis. In that capacity Phillips worked closely with wide
eceivers Randy Moss, Chris Carter, Jake Reed and Chris Walsh. The
ollowing season Phillips served in a similar capacity with the
tlanta Falcons, where he worked under head coach Dan Reeves.
hillips began his college coaching career in 2001, when he served as
n offensive assistant at Houston under head coach Dana Dimel. He
pent the following season coaching wide receivers at Texas State
efore returning to the Cougars as wide receivers coach. He spent the
007 at Baylor, where Phillips served as the recruiting coordinator
nd wide receivers coach under head coach Guy Morriss.
hillips, who writes about coaching and has published articles in
merican Football Monthly magazine, earned a bachelor's degree in
inesiology from UH in 2001.
