As a former Husker, news about Turner Gill is likely to be of some occasional
interest to Husker fans, more so when he was a coach at Kansas and when Nebraska
was in the Big XII.
The extent to which his rules and methods derive from his views on life
is debatable, I suppose.
Though ultimately coaches have to win games, I suspect part of Turner's problems
at Kansas was a case of not quite fitting in. Turner's low key, no-profanity
(and other behavior rules) approach worked at Buffalo and may work again
at Liberty, and if he had been given 4-5 years to bring in his own players,
it MIGHT have worked at Kansas, too, though the Big XII is a much tougher
league than the MAC.
He's moved on, though, as have the Huskers, and we're not likely to see him
coaching on the opposing sidelines at Memorial Stadium any time soon.
