I found the legal outcome to be quite unremarkable.  I believe that
almost any kid in a similar situation (most importantly who had not
already used diversion, which is only available once, and had someone
to see that she got fair consideration) would similarly have received
diversion for the offense that Cook did.

If there is a big difference in the handling of the case, it was how
the press covered it.  If it hadn't been an athlete, it would have
raised nothing of this type of overreaction, even with the same outcome.
If there was an issue with the press it was covering more of this
because she was an athlete, not less.
