I think the hypothesis of the article was "Big-sport Universities' Athletic Departments, particular the coaches, are basically corrupt, and untouchable".  He then collected anecdotes (real, fictional, exaggerated) and strung them loosely together to try to support his hypothesis. 



An example, if I may expose my particular attitude, on what passes for "journalism" in our current sociology.  Unfortunately, many consumers of that "journalism" either can't, or don't care to, think any deeper about the subject, and just take what's presented as "fact"
