Hey. Hey... Let's back off Des Moines!
When I drive back to NE from Illinois, I always pass thru Des Moines.
It is the greatest place in all of Iowa.
Specifically, the intersection of I-35 and I-80 is the most rewarding spot
in all of Iowa ...
Because no matter what direction you're travelling . . . you're leaving!

For anyone coming into Nebraska for games this fall, its probably a good
idea to check road conditions. On your cell phone you can call 511 and get
road conditions for any state. Or you can go to the Nebraska Dept of Roads
website to see current conditions; there are links to surrounding states.
But someone else mentioned the bypasses around the flooding. Yep, the
official route to Kansas City has you going through Des Moines. Not that I
dislike Des Moines all that much, I just don't want to drive an extra couple
of hours or more just so I can stay on an interstate the whole way. I think
the US 59 and the US 75 bypasses are equally good. Not as fast as I-29 but
based on the pictures of the road surface I saw on TV a couple of days ago,
that route won't be available until maybe the 2012 season.
