[Husker] A&M Jumps to the SEC on Monday

I think it's more of a case that it is a fairly recent development that A&M once again became interested in the SEC. Basically, it's been borne out of the fact that they despise what the Longhorn Network is doing, i.e. the desire of ESPN to air high school games and games with other B12 members. That came about only in the last month or two. If you read what the SEC said, it seems like it is more of a timing thing than closing the door completely. It makes more sense for the SEC to add two teams, to keep the total number even and keep the SEC championship game. My belief is that they haven't had time to make arrangements to add the 14th team. I think they'll take some time now to study who would make the ideal 14th member, and then reach out to that school. Depending upon who that school is, and how long it might take for that school to transition to the SEC, it could be a few months or even a couple years before they do anything. They know they can get A&M whenever they invite them. Why do it hastily and cause all kinds of scheduling problems? They can use back-door conversations to let A&M know that eventually they'll come calling. I don't think A&M has anywhere to go, so they'll just wait until it's the right time for the SEC.

If I were ISU, K State, KU, OSU, Texas Tech, and Baylor, I'd be pretty worried right about now. If there's any way for them to make contingency plans for if and when the Big 12 goes away, they'd better start doing it now. Once A&M bolts, can you really add Houston and say everything is OK? It will be the beginning of the end for the B12.

As a side note, Beebe continues to reveal his ineptitude. He should have actively pursued replacements for Colorado and Nebraska. It looks like he could have very well gotten TCU (wouldn't they have preferred the B12 over the Big East?). The loss of A&M wouldn't have stung so bad if TCU was onboard. And there are probably another 1 or 2 attractive teams. Instead, he says "we'll be fine with 10". And now "we'll be fine with 9". What a moron. Then again, with the totally inept leadership, and the fact that Texas is so hard to stomach as a fellow conference member, maybe no school on the planet would be willing to join their dying conference at this point....

So glad we escaped to greener pastures.
