It's hard not to agree with your restatement:
'If Cody wants to start at quarterback, he might have to leave
Nebraska, even if he loves it here.'
My response to that would be that I hope he doesn't because I think
he is talented and looking good.
WRT your other post, I was harsher than needed. In line with your
restatement, I probably just should have said:
'Don't you want to restate how Cody is responding to his situation,
because he seems to be a great team player in a difficult situation.'
It is only human that he would struggle with his position, but that
is true of everyone who doesn't start. I think that is why good
coaches try to get players to focus on becoming the best player that
they can be and dealing as best they can with what happens that is
beyond their control. In the end, those are more important goals than
starting, even when it comes to whether one goes on to play in the
pros. Even WRT the pros, they don't care how much you've started
(ala, Tommie Frazier), it's the player you become. Green is only a
sophomore and could be a great QB 2-3 years from now. He can only
focus on how to become a better player and going somewhere else won't
magically make that happen, as we've seen with some other QBs who
have left to go elsewhere and not found any better success.
I think Green looks pretty good this year and NU is blessed to have
an experienced QB behind him. I don't understand all of the posts
about fumbling. The fumble yesterday is his only lost fumble this
year. To me, he looks more poised, more comfortable, and more of
a threat than he did last year. He still looks to have talent to
run and throw and be a leader, but he is still only a sophomore with
limited experience. He could become a great player over the next
2-3 years.
