Sorry to continue an off topic post, perhaps we could find a more
appropriate venue should the desire to continue.
The concept that someone might take offense to modifying a national
song to local fan fervor is a weak analogy to the Confederate Flag and
what it symbolizes. I am sure that there are some individuals
(civilians and service members) who are offended by this brazen
display of disrespect and lack of patriotism; at least these folks are
loyal Sooner fans.
If a special tribute or homage is to paid to a solemn event there are
many other special ways to do so other than the singing of a song that
is constantly sung nearly daily at events ranging from a local bake
sale to backyard barbecues.
Oh, and the Washington game is scary - waiting for TM to get
comfortable to throw an accurate long ball. I still think the O-line
can create better lanes for the run when we don't rely on the zone
read.
Peace,
Darin

> Hi Paul and thank you for your post. I've been giving this some more thought. What would make it a completely different situation is if our men and women in the armed forces DID consider it offensive to sing a different word at the end of the Star Spangled Banner. That is a whole different situation. If soldiers (and I use this term to include all branches of service) considered it offensive, then it IS offensive, even if not intended to be so. If it is taken as offensive, then it IS offensive. I am originally from South Carolina and was mortified during the whole flap about flying the confederate flag from the top of the state capitol. All these people would spout on and on about how it was just part of their heritage and not "intended" to be offensive to African-Americans. It doesn't matter....it IS offensive to a very large majority of African-Americans whether intended that way or not. Same goes here. If our soldiers feel it is
