I understand that, I read that article. but why does Whaley have to the one to call the checks, why not a DB or the other LB. or is the Defense set up that only one position can call the checks.

Here's the article. I read it as the players switching positions was not an option. I could definately be wrong.

  http://huskerextra.com/sports/football/article_7ad6173a-b8a0-11df-975d-001cc4c03286.html

The paragraph I'm referring to says: "In Nebraska' new 4-2-5 defense, which uses a hybrid linebacker/safety position, the two main linebacker spots are not interchangeable. Whaley was next on the depth chart at Compton's spot."

So switch the two players. If David is a quick learner make him the one who calls the plays. Just asking.

The LJS article I read said the positions were not interchangable.

Would the Pelinis change David and Whaley around so that David can make the defensive calls ?

I've re-watched about half the game, and I did notice that while David was amazing against the run, he did make several errors against pass coverage. Probably to be expected in his first start, and it sounds like he is a fast learner.

True, but do you think the Pelinis are going to accept that? Perhaps
the team is looking for some leadership to generate that intensity in
the 4th quarter of comfortable games.

On the post-game, bo was asked about David's play and he said "He made
a lot of mistakes". I get the impression it's going to be some tough
pactices for the D this week, regardless of the 39-point margin.
