While Bo declined to "make excuses" regarding Compton's injury, Carl was 
a bit more forthcoming. He said Compton was the guy who would make the 
defensive calls; when he went down midway through Thursday's practice, 
the coaches had a day to get Whaley ready for that role. The result was 
occasional chaos: on Rainey's long, near-touchdown run, the defense was 
playing two different coverages. Perhaps the coaching failure referenced 
by Bo was fact that no one was prepared to take Compton's role.
