The You Tube clips don't show the whole picture. There was a view from a different angle that clearly showed Eric Martin raising his hands to his chest just before the hit. In my opinion, it was legal. The concern was that the OSU player had back surgery a year ago and were being cautious. It's too bad that the NFL's issues are making their way into college football. Blows to the head are a serious issue, but this hit was not a blow to the head. And I previously wrote, it was the player's back surgery that they where concerned about.
The suspension will definitely be felt, but the Pelini coaches will know how to plug the hole. I agree with the post that stated Coach Pelini should tell the team it is 'us versus them' and to go out there and play like Huskers. Nebraska can win this game if they do not come out tight, as they did against Texas. Even if Missouri's defense keys on Taylor Martinez, the coaches learned their lessons in Texas game and will be able to deal with this. The real wild card will be fans. Yes, the fans. When things are going poorly for the team, the fans sit on their hands.
The fans will need to be loud ALL THE TIME and not just when the Huskers are doing well. I know that when I attend a game, I cheer on every play when Nebraska is on defense. And if things are not going well for the Huskers, I cheer even louder. Cheering is contagious, so if you are there, be LOUD! I also don't understand why the fans are quiet while the other team is in their offensive huddle. I would be loud all the time, so that it is difficult for the other team to call the play in the huddle. Maybe it would be considered unsportsmanlike, but hey all's fair in love, war, and Husker football!
My take on the season so far. Coach Pelini definitely has this team pointed in the right direction. However, they are still a rather young team, and it has shown this season. It is not just the South Dakota State and Texas games. Nebraska has an excellent coaching staff. We fans will see that over the next few seasons. But be aware that moving the Big-10/12 will throw a huge wrinkle the maturation of Nebraska. But I digress. Back to this season. The defense is definitely missing Ndomakong Suh's leadership. It is not that Jared Crick has the defensive skills to be a leader, but right now Jared Crick as not yet stepped up to 'blow things up' on defense and fire up the team. Hopefully, as the season progresses Jared Crick will seize the reigns.
I will post more after the Missouri game.
Remember if you are the game on Saturday, be there and be LOUD! Our beloved Huskers will appreciate the support.
Go Big Red!
