I agree that Dave has been extreme in his comments about Pelini (and
have posted previously questioning some of his commentary). That said,
I think that the basic point --- that Pelini often displays less than
desirable public behavior --- is true. In particular, I agree that
Pelini's comments after the Texas game about NU fans and their hopes
for and relationship to the football program were ill considered and
rude. He would be much better to thank the fans for their support and
credit that he shares their goals for success.
I believe that Pelini has been improving in regards to his public
relations, e.g., on the sideline and in interviews, but he still has a
ways to go --- especially considering how much of a public figure and
role model he is for many young people (even if he wishes that were not
the case). Pelini, like the team and most of us (me, at least), are a
"work in progress". As the saying goes: "Be patient, God's not done
with me yet." In recent years, we have seen the cost of lack of
patience in the football program. So, as long as there is progress, we
might do well to endure the occasional failures (both on and off the
field) without too extreme complaint.
