According to the NCAA rulebook:

   No player shall twist, turn or pull the face mask, chin strap or any helmet
   opening of an opponent. It is not a foul if the face mask, chin strap or
   helmet opening is not twisted, turned or pulled. When in question, it is a
   foul

When ABC showed the play on slow motion replay, the Nebraska player clearly had
his hand over the opening just above the face mask and pulled him down
using that hand.

So IMHO this was a correct call. Some of the spots of the ball, however, were
a bit off. And as to the non-catch ruling on the sideline, even the announcers,
who were on the officials pretty hard by that point, noted that Nebraska didn't
give the replay official time to buzz in.

But the officials didn't beat Nebraska, the Huskers did that to themselves,
both in preparation for the game (including the soft non-conference schedule)
and in how they played.

In general, the Huskers played like a team with a redshirt freshman QB who had
only started five previous games, all against average (at best) schools, and had
played poorly in one of those, and the Blackshirts played like a team whose best
player from 2009 was now in Detroit. Whoda thunkit?
