  I'm a bit skeptical.  When a player is injured (real or not), they 
have to come off the field.  That would usually mean that your best 
player at that position has to miss a play - not something most coaches 
would want.
The only times I can think of when the benefits might outweigh the costs 
is when your defense needs rest or time to adjust to something the 
offense is doing.
