[Husker] bowl musings

Ok, I'll admit I'd prefer to win on Saturday, claim the B12 title and go to a BCS bowl even if it means playing an unimpressive UConn team. I just can't get too excited about lining up against the Huskies however. They barely garner any votes in the AP poll.

There is a way out. UConn loses to South Florida this weekend. (Not an impossible proposition, UConn is 1-4 on the road). If West Virginia beats Rutgers (very likely) then we can at least play a three loss WVU that would be ranked about 20th.

Or perhaps the Orange Bowl would cut a deal with the Fiesta, and take WVU over Stanford (given that both teams would travel much better to closer bowls).

So go Bulls!

Assuming we win either bowl game, wouldn't the latter scenario, even if it involves an additional loss, be more palatable than the former?

Talk about cutting off the nose to spite your face. With all due
respect, that is the most illogical thing I've read recently. You would
rather Nebraska lose the conference championship and face a harder bowl
opponent in a lower-tier bowl? I'm sorry, but consider the following:

1.) Nebraska hasn't won a conference championship since 1999
2.) Nebraska hasn't been to a BCS bowl game since 2001
3.) Nebraska hasn't won a BCS bowl game since 2010
4.) Nebraska hasn't had a 12 win season since 1999
5.) Nebraksa hasn't won two consecutive games over Oklahoma since 1997

We would have a chance to do all of these things if we win next week,
but *only* if we win next week. I, for one, am tired of beating "name"
opponent in lower tier bowl games. We already did that in 2008 and
2009. It's time to take the next step.
