After reading about Pelini and his meltdown in various new outlets today, I was wondering something. He was asked if he thought his mistreatment of referees may be a reason for the large number of penalties called on the Huskers, and he answered it may be so (paraphrasing). I know there are some folks on the list who are (or were) officials at some level, and I have a question for you- what is worse, the added penalties called because of a possible conspiracy against NU for leaving the Big 12 (one explanation) or referees making bad calls because the coach is yelling at them? (another explanation) Aren't these two things both unacceptable? Why are the same people asking Pelini if he thinks the refs are mad at him not questioning why the refs would call more penalties on the team because of it? Shouldn't these refs be investigated? I can see calling a "T" in hoop or a 15 yarder here and there against a football coach blowing his top but wouldn't calling phantom personal fouls and 8-1 ratio penalties in a game be the REFS taking it personal?
Any way you slice it, the huge increase in penalties stinks of something real bad, in my opinion, and it's not just because the Huskers play aggressive defense or their coach needs a lude.
