I actually don't think it is BS. 

My impression was spin. 

When I watched the video, it did appear that Carl was initially motioning to 
someone (I had thought he was trying to get someone off the field, or conversely 
thought he might have been yelling and Coach Cotton), then he spies the camera 
and everything went black.

It think shepherding someone off field appears plausible, and does not address 
anything that happened to the camera. Additionally, "bumped the camera" admits 
to contact, but not intent or intensity. 

These are litigious times.
