[Husker] Nebraska vs Kansas stats (UNCLASSIFIED)

I'll try to be nice (and not use CAPS) :-)
Regarding your facts...
"We gave up 24 points in regulation last week, all from short fields".
Incorrect, one was a 75 yard TD drive. Another was a 47 yard TD drive
which (1) I would not consider a short field since such starting at
midfield one or twice a game is not that unusual and (2) ISU earned it
with a previous drive from their 26 to midfield, and then holding
Nebraska to get the ball back where they left off.
"SCORING DEFENSE...is the only stat that really matters on defense".
Then why bring up field position, defensive style, who our corners are,
how it compares to Cosgrove's, etc. to explain Nebraska giving 30 points
to a team ranked #79 in scoring offense? Also, I don't consider it the
only stat that matters when evaluating a defense and predicting how it
might fare in future games.
Also if scoring is all the matters
"Offense: Pretty good, not really good
Defense: Really good, not great"
Doesn't add up since Nebraska's scoring offense is higher ranked than
Nebraska's scoring defense.
"Was it good enough to win? 100% yes".
Was it poor enough to lose? 100% yes if ISU's holder could have
executed a simple pass on their 2 point conversion. [If you can explain
away scoring drives because of a "Punt into the wind", I can consider
what would have happened if that pass had been thrown normally.
:-) ]
But let's not go overboard with this debate. You have valid points, but
I believe I and others do as well. And I think we agree much more than
we disagree.
As far as I know, no one is comparing this defense to any of Cosgrove's
or saying it's solely responsible for the ISU game almost being a loss.
My primary concern about the defense, besides recent injuries, is the
rush defense which I consider average at best. And, being a team sport,
I wish the defense was better in order to compensate for weaknesses on
the offensive side (which in your own words is "Pretty good, not really
good"). Most of us expected it to be better and hope it improves so
Nebraska has a better chance of winning their remaining games.
Go Big Red!
