Did any one else watch the special about Marcus Dupree on 30 30 last night?
For those of you who may be too young to know who he was, he was (his
coaches said) the most amazing running back ever. He was from Philadelphia,
MS who was 6'3" and 230-240 lbs with a 9.5 sec. 100 yard dash time. He was
recruited by over 300 colleges and settled on 3, OU, TX, and Southern
Mississippi. He signed with OU and played for about 1 1/2 years.

I was blown away by what the Texas and OU coaches admitted to doing in
trying to sign him. The guy from Texas who recruited him said it was the
dirtiest recruitment in history. Lucious Selmon said the OU coaches
discussed what it would take to sign him and they decided it would take at
least $150,000. TX moved 2 recruiters to Philadelphia during the later days
of the signing process. Dupree left the OU team for a few days during his
sophomore year so the coaches called him and his mom and asked what they
could do to make them happy. Dupree's mom said "I want a double wide
trailer" and the next day one was delivered to her lot. It was incredible
what the people around him did to try to feast off his athletic prowess. If
you get a chance, watch the special.

Am I naive in thinking NU didn't break the rules in their recruiting during
those years?
