The change of QB by Penn State was certainly part of it, but I'm afraid
with Northwestern no lead is ever safe, they've blown big leads a number of
times in recent seasons, including the 2006 NCAA record comeback by Michigan State.
I think the Football Gods must be mischievous today, there have been weird
games and crazy finishes all season but today's games included some doozies.
But I did see what may be the best TD catch all season in the Northwestern game,
a one-handed grab at the very back of the end zone by Drake Dunsmore that
I STILL can't believe he caught!
With games against Iowa (Home), Illinois (Wrigley) and Wisconsin (Away) left on
the schedule, it remains to be seen just how the Cats will finish the season,
it could be a chance for Pat Fitzgerald to show just how good a coach he is,
and I'd hate to see them limp into a bowl game at 6-6 after dropping their last 4.
The Iowa game next week will be interesting, I'm sure the Hawkeyes haven't forgotten
that loss last season.
A number of the bowl prediction lists have had Northwestern vs Kansas State in
an all-purple Wildcats bowl game, but I think KSU may have bigger plans after today.
But the real coaching challenge may be in Austin. After Mack Brown's comments this
week about his players and coaches essentially giving up and today's performance,
I kind of wonder if they'll win another game this season, even the Florida Atlantic
'breather'.
